was planning on clarifying in an upcoming post but there are two reasons for no wall on the street level: 95' long on one side and something like 60' on the other. can you imagine the cost?! a wall here doesn't really serve a purpose... nobody tries to scale that steep hill, ever. more important to put in plants that hold the hillside back than it is to put up a stupid wall. the concrete crew did a terrible job of returning the hillside to its former shape after to dug a trench through it to get their equipment up. more soil will be added soon. plants will stop the tumbling. (the plants are about to be ordered!)

no more walls to be added. some of the steepness in the lower level needs to be flattened out again... after all the digging, the concrete crew tried to grade it back to what they started with but it's a little slopey in spots. will be posting on the various "zones" of the garden and how that's affecting design and my plantings... basically, below the wall will be an open area for potting, play and getting to the storage under the patio. probably some bamboo (many potential shrubby things being discussed) to block the view. i'll show you soon!

So I am curious:
You took out all that unsable stone, but you did not build a wall in it's place. You set the back retaining wall far back from the sidewalk. What is the plan for the sloping "unsuable" area from the new wall to the sidewalk, which seems to still spill onto the sidewalk? Another lower wall and a new plateau for patio/playing /planting?

BTW, the new walls look wonderful.
Years later I wonder if there will be a house warming this sumer....
